Preparing the Way: Welcoming Rev. Richard Romero to Trinity in Ewing

As we continue to live in the light of resurrection, this season feels like the perfect time to talk about new beginnings. And today, I want to invite you, our beloved Trinity family, to begin preparing the way (el camino) for someone very special.

During our Sunday worship service, this news was shared with us by Caroline Wylie, our Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) Chair: starting July 1st, Rev. Richard Romero will begin his journey as the new pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church in Ewing, NJ, appointed by Bishop Cynthia Moore-Koikoi.

As you may know, the United Methodist Church lives in a rhythm of itinerancy; pastors are sent, received, and moved by the Spirit through the appointments of our connectional system. And in that sacred movement, we give thanks to God for bringing Rev. Romero to Trinity at this time.

Rev. Romero brings with him a powerful mix of gifts and experiences. He has a deep grounding in spiritual formation, a strong history of intercultural ministry, and a passion for leadership development and community engagement. His time serving diverse congregations has shaped a collaborative leadership style that aligns beautifully with Trinity’s heart.

More than that, he carries a vision for growth, not just in numbers, but in depth, in connection, in purpose. His commitment to mission-driven ministry speaks to the kind of church Trinity is becoming: one that reaches out, that welcomes all, and that walks with its extended community with both compassion and courage.

So today, I invite you to start getting ready. Not just logistically, but spiritually. Let us prepare the hearts, sanctuary, and ministries to receive Pastor Richard with love, hope, and the wide-open arms that define Trinity. Let us begin to pray for him, for this transition, for the ways his life and calling will intertwine with this congregation.

The road ahead is full of possibility. Let us walk it with faith.
Let us prepare the way!

Warmly,

Rev. David Gaitan
