Making a Difference One Lunch at a Time!
I’m excited to share some wonderful news with you all! On Thursday, September 12, our church community came together once again to spread kindness and generosity right here in Ewing, NJ. For the second time this year, Trinity UMC organized and distributed around 80 to-go lunches for the students at The College of New Jersey. What a joyous occasion it was! With each lunch we handed out, we were able to make a positive impact in our community, and we are so grateful to be a part of this important work.
Seeing the smiles and hearing the gratitude from the students has been truly uplifting. It’s a beautiful reminder that when we show up in our community with open hearts and a willingness to serve, we create a space where lives are touched and transformed in meaningful ways.
There have been so many beautiful stories and testimonies emerging from these efforts. The students’ gratitude and joy are evident with every lunch box they receive, especially as they embark on a new academic year. One story that stood out to me is a testament to how God’s grace shows up in unexpected places. A young student approached us with a huge smile and shared her story. She told us that she had been thinking about how hungry she was and that she needed to find something to eat. The problem was, she didn’t have any food on hand, and getting a meal meant she would have to go back home, missing her classes for the day.
But then, she stumbled upon our lunch giveaway. With a sense of relief, she picked up a lunch bag, knowing she could now stay on campus, attend her classes, and still have a full belly. It was a small moment that made a huge difference in her day—and perhaps in her journey as a student. It’s a powerful reminder that food insecurity can affect people in ways we might not even imagine. Even something as simple as a to-go lunch can have a profound impact on someone’s life.
Moments like these make us realize how much of a difference we can make when we come together in service and love. It’s a blessing to witness these testimonies and see the joy and relief on the faces of those we serve. None of this would be possible without the incredible support of our Trinity family, and I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for your donations, prayers, and encouragement. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, plays a vital role in making these acts of kindness possible.
A special shout-out to our friends at Pennington United Methodist Church! We are so grateful for their partnership in this mission. Today, they generously sponsored subs for the lunches, and together we were able to make an even greater impact. When we join hands and work together, the love we share multiplies and spreads far and wide. As John Wesley once said, “Do all the good you can, in all the ways you can, to all the people you can, for as long as you can.” Today, we lived that out in a tangible way, and I am so proud of what we are accomplishing as a community.
Let’s continue to be a light in our community, reaching out with love, generosity, and compassion. There is still so much good to do, and together, we can keep making a difference—one lunch at a time. Blessings to all of you!
With gratitude and joy,
Rev. David Gaitan
