One year…

This week marks a significant moment for us as I reflect on completing my first year as the pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church in Ewing, New Jersey. It has been a year filled with profound gratitude and honor to serve alongside the incredible leadership and loving community of our congregation. From the outset, I have felt blessed by the opportunity God has given me to be part of this spiritual family, and the journey we have embarked upon together has been nothing short of transformative.

In this past year, we have encountered numerous challenges, yet amidst them, we have also experienced a profound process of healing and love. It is evident that God has been with us every step of the way, guiding our actions and strengthening our faith. Together, we have achieved significant goals that reflect our shared commitment and dedication to our church and its mission.

Throughout this journey, our congregation has remained steadfast and united, demonstrating unwavering dedication by faithfully attending Sunday worship services both in person and online. Together, we have supported one another through prayer and mutual encouragement, fostering a sense of cohesion even during challenging times. The hard work, grace, and dedication of our leadership have been crucial in navigating this past year. This has not been an easy journey, but the Spirit has strengthened us.

One of our key accomplishments has been the successful increase in rent from our tenants, which is a step which contributes to our financial stability. Through careful management and the utilization of our facilities, we also have been able to generate income that supports our mission. Additionally, we have boosted programs aimed at keeping reaching out to our broader community, including partnerships with institutions like The College of New Jersey, fostering connections and spreading the message of God’s love beyond our church walls through kindness and generosity.

A core aspect of our ministry has been the care and outreach to our members, particularly those on the Shut-Ins List. We have made it a priority to visit them as regularly as possible, bringing them not only the word of God but also prayers and Holy communion, ensuring they remain connected and supported by our church family.

Financial responsibility has been another cornerstone of our stewardship. By diligently paying our obligations to the Annual Conference and securing discounts through our shared ministry, we have maintained a solid financial footing. This responsible management has enabled us to undertake important projects such as the fundraising for Roof Project, where we have successfully completed the first phase, we are running the second one, and are actively preparing for the next steps. Thanks to your contributions, savings, and the Van Der Hammon trust, we have been able to keep moving forward.

Adapting to the changing times, we have embraced technology to broadcast our Sunday morning services online. This initiative has not only extended our reach to individuals unable to attend in person but has also created a virtual sanctuary where people from different places can join together in worship and community.

In our commitment to inclusivity, we have intentionally designed these Sunday morning services as a welcoming space for all. Whether it’s creating environments like “The Smallest Followers of Jesus” to cater to the youngest members of our congregation, even if just a few, or organizing thematic celebrations and commemorations that resonate with our social awareness, we strive to ensure everyone feels valued and included. Embracing diversity, we have opened our pulpit to voices from within our community, enriching our worship experiences with varied perspectives and insights. This inclusive approach not only strengthens our unity as a church family but also reinforces our belief in the inherent worth and dignity of every individual in the eyes of God.

Furthermore, our commitment to creating a safe and nurturing environment is reflected in our progress towards obtaining certification for our Safe Sanctuary Policy. We are still working and getting ready to submit it. This policy underscores our dedication to protecting and supporting all members of our congregation, particularly the vulnerable.

Beyond our internal ministries, we have continued to engage with our local community through social programs facilitated by our Women of Faith ministry and the use of our facilities. These initiatives serve as a testament to our belief in serving others and embodying God’s love through practical action.

As we look ahead to the challenges and opportunities of the coming year, I am filled with hope and faith. The path forward is illuminated by God’s grace, and I am confident that together, with the unwavering support and commitment of our community of faith at Trinity, we will continue to grow and thrive.

I extend my heartfelt thanks to each member of Trinity United Methodist Church for your dedication, love, and faithfulness throughout this past year. Your prayers, involvement, and generosity have made all our achievements possible, and I am deeply grateful for the privilege to serve alongside you. Together, let us embrace the future with hope and anticipation, knowing that God’s guiding hand will continue to lead us on this remarkable journey of faith.

Warmly,

Rev. David Gaitan
